Meet a MAKEENer
What was your background before you joined MAKEEN Energy?
I began my career in a manufacturing company, and I think I spent around 10 years there. Then I got an offer for a sales and marketing role with a local Malaysian company that was a supplier of Petronas Malaysia. Some days I went up the street for meetings with their offshore platform manager. After four years, I saw an advertisement for the position of Sales Manager in MAKEEN Energy Malaysia.
Can you describe your current role?
I am currently the Plant Manager for Facility Management at Port Dickinson in Malaysia. This change happened in June 2023, and it has been an exciting journey since. I've enjoyed taking on new challenges and leading the team to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.
As the Plant Manager, my role involves overseeing daily operations to ensure that all processes run smoothly and efficiently. I collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, operators, and other team members to maintain our equipment, such as carousels, conveyors, and the palletizer system, ensuring high performance. Additionally, I am responsible for ensuring that deliveries and shipments to our clients are smooth and meet their expectations, while also maintaining the overall performance of the Port Dickson plant.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of my role is leading initiatives that not only optimize manpower but also improve sustainability in our operations. Implementing innovative solutions, reducing downtime, and maintaining high safety standards are key focuses in my day-to-day responsibilities. It’s a dynamic and rewarding role that allows me to make a tangible impact on both the facility and the broader goals of MAKEEN Energy.
You have had success with the Philippine market. How did you achieve that?
Our equipment has been in the Philippines for more than 20 years, but we always just installed the machines and left. But since 2016, when I joined MAKEEN Energy Malaysia, I have appointed a new agent in the country. He knows the people who are in charge of every project at the leading gas and oil company in the Philippines, Petron PHL.
Through him, we heard about an upgrading project with Petron, so I tried to communicate with their technical team with our agent as CC. Since then, we have had several projects with them, and more to come.
One of the selling points I have used is showing the width of MAKEEN Energy's capabilities. By showing our strengths as a global organisation, we can achieve an edge on the competition.
Where do you see MAKEEN Energy Malaysia heading in the future?
I see MAKEEN Energy Malaysia continuing to evolve as a leader in the energy sector, particularly focusing on sustainability and innovation. With the growing demand for cleaner energy solutions, we aim to push forward with new technologies and services that support a greener future.
We’re also focused on expanding our presence in the region, strengthening our partnerships, and continuously improving our operational efficiency to meet the needs of our customers and the industry. It’s an exciting time to be part of a company that prioritizes both environmental impact and business growth.
