DecomBlades

DecomBlades - Innovation Project of the Year 2025
We are proud to share that the DecomBlades project - which we took part in as a partner - has been named "Årets Innovationsprojekt" (Innovation Project of The Year) by Energy Cluster Denmark!
Partnering innovation
The DecomBlades project, a collaborative initiative aimed at advancing the circularity of wind turbine blades, has been honoured the Innovation Project of the Year award (Årets Innovationsprojekt) by Energy Cluster Denmark. Partnering with other innovative partners, MAKEEN Energy helped develop and demonstrate a pyrolysis process that separates materials from end-of-life wind turbine blades. The recovered glass fibre can be reused to produce stronger fibres. The recovered glass fibres can be reused to produce stronger fibres, that can be used in manufacturing new wind turbine blades – securing full circularity.
"It is a huge recognition for the entire circle of partners and the work we have put into the project. Being chosen as Innovation Project of the Year shows that the solution provides real value for the green transition and for the industry. We have achieved this important milestone not at the laboratory level, but at industrial scale. The process has real commercial perspectives.”"
From waste to resource - through shared expertise.
In addition to a closer step to circular wind industry, the project also introduced industrial material passports. These passports aim to support recyclers in sorting and handling decommissioned blades more efficiently, further enhancing the circulation the wind energy infrastructure.
The DecomBlades project is a collaborative initiative involving several industry leaders and academic institutions, including Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, Ørsted, LM Wind Power, HJHansen Recycling Group, FLSmidth, DTU Wind and Energy Systems, the University of Southern Denmark, and Energy Cluster Denmark.
The project received funding support from Innovation Fund Denmark.
We would like to make a special recognition to Project Manager Irene Bach Velling Villadsen for her dedicated leadership and representation throughout the project.
