More than fifteen years after Indonesia began its nationwide shift from kerosene to LPG, the transformation continues to shape the country’s energy landscape, and what started as a government-led effort has grown into a market driven by local operators – and we are there to support it.

More than a decade ago, Indonesia launched its nationwide conversion programme from kerosene to LPG - one of the largest household energy transitions in the world. The initiative was introduced in 2007 and aimed to reduce the government’s heavy fuel subsidies, improve energy security, and promote healthier cooking practices.
Cooking with kerosene is both harmful to human health and damaging to the environment and replacing it with LPG has brought significant benefits to millions of households across the country.
Accessibility is key
Although the main conversion phase is long completed, the effects continue to shape Indonesia’s energy market today. The government has issued more than 500 licences to small operators, many of them former kerosene sellers, to establish new LPG filling plants. Subsidising LPG remains more economical than kerosene, and with ongoing demand from both existing and new facilities, the need for reliable, readily available filling equipment continues to grow.
In this market, delivery speed is crucial. The licences granted by Pertamina, Indonesia’s national oil and gas company, are time-limited, and delays with customs or documentation can cause valuable permits to expire before a plant is ready. To address this, MAKEEN Energy developed its door-to-door concept - a business model tailored to Indonesia’s specific market needs.

Same day delivery
By keeping filling machines in stock, we ensure that customers can pick up their equipment in the morning, load it onto a pickup truck, and have it installed before noon - a sharp contrast to the usual 10-12 weeks of industry delivery time. This approach supports Indonesia’s continued efforts to make LPG accessible nationwide, ensuring that operators can get their plants running as quickly and efficiently as possible.
So far, we have sold more than 60, 40-foot containers, accumulating more than 6,000 machines in total. Whether customers are expanding existing facilities or building new ones from the ground up, our door-to-door concept ensures they can count on fast delivery, dependable quality, and a partner fully aligned with Indonesia’s long-term clean energy goals.
