In March 2025, a landslide hit PIRSB’s LPG terminal in Bintulu, halting operations. MAKEEN Energy Malaysia (MEMY) quickly led a recovery by relocating filling equipment to a temporary site, restoring LPG supply to Northern Sarawak. The effort showed strong teamwork and commitment to energy security during a crisis.
In the wake of a devastating landslide that struck the LPG terminal of PIRSB in Bintulu, Sarawak, MAKEEN Energy Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (MEMY) has successfully led a rapid recovery effort to restore critical operations and safeguard the regional LPG supply.
The natural disaster caused significant damage to the terminal, rupturing LPG piping, firewater and air systems, electrical cabling, and compromising key structural components. This forced a complete operational shutdown, putting the LPG distribution to Northern Sarawak at serious risk.
Recognising the urgency, PIRSB’s Management called on MEMY for immediate support. In response, MEMY proposed and implemented a fast-track recovery plan centered on the strategic relocation of PIRSB’s existing filling machines to a temporary facility. This innovative approach enabled PIRSB to resume bottling activities while reconstruction of the original terminal commenced.
Under the leadership of MEMY’s Team, the recovery was executed on an accelerated timeline, encompassing site preparation, logistics, equipment relocation, installation, and commissioning. Despite the challenging circumstances, the project was completed successfully and on schedule, restoring a vital LPG supply to the region.
“This was a mission-critical response, and we are proud to have partnered with PIRSB to deliver a solution that ensured energy continuity in Northern Sarawak,” said a spokesperson from MAKEEN Energy Malaysia. “This project reflects the resilience, collaboration, and technical excellence of both teams under extreme pressure.”
The swift and effective recovery underscores the shared commitment of PIRSB and MEMY to operational excellence and energy security, even in the face of unforeseen natural disasters.
