    Position: Design and Engineering Intern
    Studies: Mechanical Engineering, Aarhus University
At MAKEEN Energy since: August 2021

How did you end up as an intern at MAKEEN Energy?

I grew up in Randers, and so when I had to look for internships, I already knew about MAKEEN Energy. My school asked us to find out own internships, and so I checked out what positions were available here. I found a posting from the design department looking for interns, and I just thought that it sounded nice and like a match for me. So I just applied and was lucky enough to get the internship.

What do you do in your internship?

I do two things, basically. I design new parts and I update old machines and drawings. Let me elaborate. Design engineers make sure that the engineering that has been done and is going to be done is as ideal as possible. So I both invent new things and I update old things and make sure existing things operate as smooth as possible. I’m kind of having the role of an optimizer, and that suits me well!

What is it like to be an intern at MAKEEN Energy?

I think it’s a good place to be. I feel like I’m learning a lot by being a part of a company this big. There’s always someone to help me, and I like to experience the interaction and teamwork between so many different people in different departments – that’s not something I would have experienced in a small company. It’s nice to be able to see the big connections – to see what happens when I click “send”, that the project moves to the shipping department, that it moves out in the world in a streamlined way.

In this way I’ve learned what it’s like to work for any big company, I guess. To know what it’s like to get a big project, to work on it, fix it in the best way possible, and then to pass it on to the right people. This bigger understanding of what a company actually is, that’s something I’m happy to have learned here.

What is the best thing about your internship – and the most challenging?

The best thing is the interaction and collaboration between colleagues here. To have friendly colleagues that are fun to talk with and that I can ask both professional advice but also tell what I’ve done in my weekend – the colleagues here, that’s the best thing about my internship!

The most challenging part of being here has been both the technical – that I’ve had to stand on my own feet, so to speak, to design my own things and remember everything I’ve learned during my studies. Besides that, the fact that I’ve having an “adult job” and need to be here every day from 7 to 15, that’s also a challenge, haha, but a good one!

What comes after your internship?

After this internship I’m going to finish my bachelor’s degree. And then I think I’m going to continue studying to become a civil engineer.
